What it does:
Simple. It plays the soundclip in question (read on) when you Mac boots up, but ONLY on Thursday! Cute, eh?
What it is:
For those of you not acquainted with the saga of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, there is a scene very early in the first book in which Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent are downing three pints of bitter (at lunchtime) for reasons I won't get into. Ford is trying to impress upon Arthur (who has ALREADY had a bad day up until this point) that the planet is about to be disintegrated. He is only marginally successful but he does get a response out of Arthur. That response is, "This must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays."
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was made both into a book on tape (BOT) and was a weekly radio show on the BBC for awhile a few years back. I have recordings of both. This folder includes an installer with two versions of the same phrase: one is the BBC version of the lament and the other is the BOT version. Both are uttered by the same actor (Simon Jones). The installer lets you preview the two sounds and lets you choose which one you want installed. There also exists a Video Series of the Guide, but they are not yet in my possession. Perhaps after the first of the year (1995) we will release version 1.1 which will include the video version of the same audio clip.
